Hit the Deck: Brutalism, Power, and the Weight of Concrete

What does brutalism sound like?

That question became the foundation of "Hit the Deck," the second single from my upcoming project, Base Metal.

Most people know brutalism as an architectural style defined by massive concrete structures, sharp geometry, and an unapologetic sense of permanence. Some see those buildings as cold and oppressive. Others see them as powerful and honest. I've always been fascinated by that divide.

When I started writing "Hit the Deck," I wasn't interested in simply creating a song about architecture. I wanted to explore the broader idea of brutality itself.

Concrete towers, political systems, institutions, and even individuals can all project the same qualities: power, dominance, indifference, and control. The song examines what happens when those forces become overwhelming and when the people caught beneath them are forced to confront them.

Musically, "Hit the Deck" blends downtuned groove metal riffs with industrial textures and cinematic synths. The goal was to create something that felt massive and imposing, like standing beneath a towering wall of concrete and steel. Every riff was designed to feel like weight. Every rhythm was intended to feel mechanical and relentless.

The lyrics approach these themes from multiple angles. They touch on corruption, power structures, and the ways influential people can evade accountability. One section alludes to a notorious figure whose death in prison remains a subject of speculation and public debate, using that imagery as a symbol of unanswered questions surrounding privilege, justice, and power.

At its core, however, "Hit the Deck" is less about any single person and more about systems. It's about the structures we build, the people who benefit from them, and the people forced to live beneath them.

As Galvanic, I'm interested in finding the intersection between heavy music and big ideas. Whether those ideas come from industry, architecture, politics, technology, or culture, I want the music to feel like more than just sound. I want it to create a world.

"Hit the Deck" is one step further into that world.

And this is only the beginning.

Listen to "Hit the Deck" now and stay connected for the next release, "Ashes of a Nightmare," arriving this November.
